The concrete Language Building is a beautifully formed, Eight-storey, department classroom building situated in the heart of the IEU campus. It is Thor’s first academic building in Turkey. Developed by Izmir University of Economics, a nationally renowned university that is making it a point to work with renowned architects for it’s building and master-plan designs.

Our website, thorarchitects.com, offers constant original coverage of the interior design and architecture of the office, new buildings and products, and high-end real estate as well as access to the journals of the office principals and design and development advise.

The generously proportioned central staircase, which links the individual levels is a raw concrete structure with coloured handrails. These give an indication of the color coding of each level.

The ground floor hosts the main lecture hall where the architect got an opportunity to perform a design process at the very edge of architectural research. Using digital models and optimization algorithms, the space is designed to minimize reverberation times and function with no, or very little sound equipment. The space created is a folded natural cavern that inspires the students to higher goals.
